About ToSM
All across the internet, “Social Media Guru’s” abound.
I’m no social media guru.
To be honest, I don’t even know what that means.
I consider myself a student of social media. My opinion is “social media” has been around as long as humans have walked the earth. We are social creatures. Back in the day, Og the Caveman would sit around the fire and talk about his day to anyone who would listen. The cave-ladies would roll their eyes while Og recounted his manly adventures, and cave-dudes would all be one upping each other with tales of who speared the bigger Mammoth.
The cave people were interacting in a social setting. Obviously these folks had no internet, no Twitter, no Facebook and they weren’t LinkedIn. But they were social — sharing, learning, teaching and interacting with each other. They formed groups and cliques. Some had more “authority” (or perceived authority) than others.
They had friends, and followers. There were popular cave-people, and there were annoying cave-people. And everything in between.
Just like we have today.
Only today we have whiz-bang technology tools to take our socializing and networking planet wide.
As a student of social media and networking, I find myself reading a lot about it, talking about it, and sharing what I find and discover with others interested in it. I use “social media” extensively in both my private and professional life, where it provides not only viable business prospects and clients, but also a nice diversion from the stress and strain of daily life.
Feeling the need to write and explore more with regard to social media, and not wanting to turn my “primary” blog — Phoenix Real Estate Guy — into yet another discourse on all things social media, I bring you this little diversion — Thoughts on Social Media.
Which is, of course, yet another discourse on all things social media…
